OVERVIEW
The ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP) is a secure website that allows international medical schools to access a web-based program for verifying the status of their students/graduates who have applied to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®) for the United States Medical Licensing Examination™ (USMLE™). EMSWP is available 24 hours/day, seven days/week at no cost to users.
REQUIREMENTS TO ACCESS EMSWP
To access EMSWP, you must have a PC with Internet access. The PC must have one of the following web browsers installed: Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher), Netscape® Navigator 4.7 (or higher, except Netscape® 6.0) or Mozilla Firefox™ 2.0 (or higher). Both Cookies and JavaScripting must be enabled for the browser that you use. (Cookies and JavaScripting are enabled by default. However, if you need to change these settings, refer to the Help feature of your browser).
Medical schools must be granted access to EMSWP by ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator. Contact ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator by e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at (215) 966-3515.
Each medical school dean must complete a “Request to Establish Authorized ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP) Account” form to request access to EMSWP and to designate the medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator. The form can be requested from ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator.
The role of the medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator is to serve as the primary contact for ECFMG and the other Users at the medical school who may require assistance with their accounts. The medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator is responsible for contacting the ECFMG EMSWP Administrator to register new users, deactivate users, reset accounts, and release account locks, as needed.
INSTRUCTIONS
To establish an EMSWP User Account for a medical school, the medical school dean must obtain a “Request to Establish Authorized ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP) Account” form from ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator. The dean should e-mail the request for the form to [email protected].
When completing the "Request to Establish Authorized ECFMG Medical School Web Portal (EMSWP) Account” form, the medical school dean must designate one person as the school’s EMSWP Coordinator and provide the following information about the Coordinator:

¨ E-mail address
¨ Date of Birth
¨ Birth Country
After ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator receives and verifies the medical school’s request, a temporary User Name and one-time temporary Password will be sent by ECFMG to the medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator in two separate e-mails. These e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the medical school for its EMSWP Coordinator. Both the temporary User Name and temporary Password are required to establish an EMSWP User Account.
After receiving the temporary User Name and temporary Password, you will be required to establish your EMSWP account. This process will require you to choose a personalized User Name and Password, Security Image and Caption, and 10 Challenge Questions and Answers.
You will need to complete the following steps to establish the EMSWP account:
1. Open the preferred web browser and go to https://ecam.ecfmg.org/.
2. Enter the temporary User Name you received by e-mail from ECFMG and click “Continue.”
3. Enter the temporary Password you received by e-mail from ECFMG.
4. You will then be offered the opportunity to either keep the existing User Name or enter a new, personalized User Name. This will be the only opportunity for you to modify the User Name; otherwise, the temporary User Name will become your permanent User Name. ECFMG recommends that you change your User Name to one you will easily remember.
Note: The User Name must be at least one character in length and cannot exceed 50 characters in length.
5. Change the temporary Password.
¨ You will be prompted to enter the temporary Password.
¨ You will then need to enter and confirm the new Password.
¨ All Passwords must meet the following requirements:
· A minimum of eight characters; a maximum of 16 characters
· A minimum of one upper- and one lowercase character
· A minimum of one numeric character
· The first and last character cannot be numeric
· Cannot contain more than two consecutive identical characters
· Cannot contain your User Name
· Cannot be the same as any of your previous five passwords
Important Note: Passwords are case sensitive.
6. Select a Security Image and Caption.
¨ Select a category and choose an Image to use as your Security Image.
¨ Create a Caption for the selected Image.
¨ Both the Security Image and Caption are required in order to proceed.
¨ The Caption for the Security Image must be at least one character in length and cannot exceed 100 characters in length.
7. Select and answer 10 Challenge Questions.
¨ Choose 10 Challenge Questions from the list. The same question cannot be selected more than once.
¨ Enter an Answer for each Challenge Question.
Note: The answers should be something you can easily remember and only you would know. You will be required to answer one randomly selected question during all future logins.
8. After you have answered the 10 Challenge Questions, you will have established your EMSWP User Account.
After you have established the EMSWP User Account, you will be able to log into EMSWP. Logging into EMSWP will allow you to access the list of your medical school’s students/graduates who have applied for examination, as well as to administer your EMSWP User Account.
You will need to complete the following steps to login:
1. Open your preferred web browser and go to https://ecam.ecfmg.org/.
2. Enter your User Name and click “Continue.”
3. Once you have entered a valid User Name, you will then be presented with a Password page that also displays your Security Image and Caption.
¨ If the Image and Caption shown are what you chose, enter your Password and click “Continue.”
¨ If the Image or Caption shown are not what you chose, you must click on the “Not My Image” link. This will reset your account and further instructions will be e-mailed to you.
4. After entering your Password, you will be presented with one randomly selected Challenge Question, which you will be required to answer.
¨ Answer the Challenge Question. Once you have entered the correct answer to the Challenge Question, the login process will be complete.
Once you have an EMSWP account, you can change your Password, Security Image and Caption, and Challenge Questions and Answers at any time.
¨ Click on "My Security Profile," and then on the “Change Password” option.
· Enter your current Password.
· Enter and confirm your new Password.
· All passwords must meet the following requirements:

· Cannot contain you User Name
¨ Should you choose to keep the current Password, click the “Cancel” button to exit without making any changes.
¨ Click on "My Security Profile," and then on the “Change Security Image” link.
· Select any category and choose an Image to use as your new Security Image.
· Create a Caption for the selected Image.
· Both the Security Image and Caption are required in order to proceed.
¨ Should you choose to keep the current Security Image, click the “Cancel” button to exit without making any changes.
¨ Click on "My Security Profile," and then on the “Change Challenge Question” link.
· Review your current 10 Challenge Questions and Answers.
· Select the Challenge Question/Answer you wish to remove from the list and click “Remove Selected Item.” You can repeat this process for all of the Challenge Questions/Answers you wish to change.
· Choose the replacement Challenge Question(s) from the list. The same Question cannot be selected more than once.
· Enter an Answer for each replacement Challenge Question.
Note: Answers should be something you can easily remember and only you would know. You will be required to answer one randomly selected question during all future logins.

How does a medical school establish an EMSWP account?

What do I do if I forget my User Name?
If you cannot remember your User Name, you may click the “Forgot User Name” link. You will then be prompted to enter the e-mail address associated with your account and click “Continue.” You will receive an e-mail containing your User Name.
What do I do if I forget my Password?
If you cannot remember your Password, you may click the “Forgot Password” link. You will then be prompted to answer four randomly selected Challenge Questions. If you successfully answer the questions, you will automatically be sent a new temporary Password, which you must change during your next login.
What if I enter the wrong Password?
You have three opportunities to enter the correct Password. If you fail to enter the correct Password three times, your account will be locked. You will need to contact the EMSWP Administrator by e-mail at [email protected] to request that your account be reset.
What do I do if I forget the answer to one of my Challenge Questions?
If you forget the answer to the Challenge Question, click the “Forgot Challenge Questions” link. This will reset your account, and further instructions will be e-mailed to you.
What happens if I enter the wrong answer to my Challenge Question?
You have three opportunities to enter the correct answer to your Challenge Question. If you fail to enter the correct answer, your account will be locked. You will need to contact the EMSWP Administrator by e-mail at [email protected] to request that your account be reset.
What is the role of the medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator?
The medical school’s EMSWP Coordinator is the primary contact at the medical school for ECFMG. The EMSWP Coordinator is also responsible for requesting the ECFMG EMSWP Administrator to add/delete other medical school users, reset accounts, and release account locks, as needed.
What is the role of ECFMG’s EMSWP Administrator?
The ECFMG EMSWP Administrator is the primary contact at ECFMG for the medical schools’ EMSWP Coordinators. The EMSWP Administrator will receive requests to establish accounts, add/delete users, and provide assistance in all matters related to EMSWP.
